Jim
Fosgate
Senior Executive Consultant
Jim Fosgate began his career in multi-channel audio with
the Tate surround technology, a quadraphonic
circuit. He worked with Peter Schreiber, the inventor
of matrix surround decoding. Jim and Peter created the
Space Matrix 3600 decoder that was a five channel circuit.
Jim holds 25 patents in the audio industry. He created
the acclaimed 6-Axis surround decoding technology
and is also the creator of the acclaimed Dolby Pro-Logic
II decoding technology, which incorporates feedback steering
logic. Jims love is tube components and he is considered
among the finest tube component designers in the world. |
Charles
Wood
Executive Consultant
Charles Wood founded Audionics of Oregon in 1969. Audionics
merged with Fosgate Research in 1986 to form Fosgate Audionics.
Charles has been developing multi-channel audio technology
since 1972. Charles, along with Jim Fosgate, has developed
numerous firsts that are now standards in
many multi-channel audio products and has been an AES
member since 1977. |
Jim
Strickland
Vice President of Engineering
A published AES member since 1970, Jim holds nine
patents in the audio field and has been leading the engineering
team at Rockford Corporation since 1985. |
Gary
Church
Chief Acoustic Engineer
Gary has been an active AES member since 1968. Gary has
been designing and developing speaker drivers for twenty-five
years. His extensive experience and attention to detail
has enabled him to lead a talented engineering team at
our Rockford Acoustic Design (RAD) facility. |
Mark
Albers
Senior Design Engineer
Mark, a ten year veteran of Rockford engineering, has
been intimately involved in the development of the Hafler
Professional P1000, P1500, P3000, P7000, 9505 and TRM
Series of amplified monitors. Mark's passion for uncolored
amplifier circuitry has produced the FA 1000.5 -- an incredibly
transparent audio amplifier. |
An Overview
The evolution of music has paralleled the evolution of
mankind. Technology and the integration of technology
into musical electronic components, continues to evolve
forward with ever increasing performance and resolve.
Fosgate Audionics products allow music lovers and home
theater enthusiasts the pleasure of listening to music
and movie software through state-of-the-art components,
with new technology, outstanding build quality, and
exacting feature sets.
Fosgate Audionics processors incorporate Dolby®
Pro-Logic ll, the newest evolution of matrixed surround
sound from Jim Fosgate. Our processors use wide bandwidth
video processing/switching designed by Charles Wood.
Our amplifiers use patented Transnova circuit
designs from Jim Strickland. Fosgate Audionics loudspeakers
are designed by renowned acoustic engineer, Gary Church,
at our Rockford Acoustic Design (RAD) facility in Grand
Rapids, Michigan.
Dolby® Pro-Logic ll, created by Jim Fosgate and
licensed through Dolby® Labs has been acclaimed
as a milestone achievement in surround sound technology,
and is widely recognized as the ideal surround sound
processing algorithm for music. Fosgate Audionics products
allow lovers of music and home theater to go back into
the archives of recorded music and movies and experience
them all over again with a renewed appreciation for
the artists intentions. Our products create an
enveloping, completely stable soundstage, that redefines
the listening experience; bringing out nuances and details
that few have ever experienced before.
Fosgate Audionics surround sound processors, amplifiers,
monitor speakers and powered subwoofers are designed
to the exacting standards of Jim Fosgate, Charles Wood,
Jim Strickland and Gary Church to create components
that carry a legacy of unparalleled performance, craftsmanship
and value. |
The
Best of Everything
Fosgate Audionics is one of the few companies with the
resources to design and manufacture both electronics and
loudspeakers. With facilities in Grand Rapids, Michigan,
and Tempe, Arizona our engineers design products to work
in harmony with each other. We build products to the most
rigid and exacting specifications in the business. The
result to our customers is products that perform beyond
expectation time and time again. |

Amplifier Technology
Fosgate Audionics engineers are among the best on the
planet. Our patented technologies have elevated the
performance of amplifiers for over a decade.
Transnova keeps it simple. In older designs,
an engineer must choose whether to amplify voltage or
current at any given gain stage. As every stage of amplification
adds noise, crosstalk and distortion to the audio signal,
the detail of the music often gets lost in the process.
Patented Transnova circuitry configures
output MOSFETs to provide voltage and current gain-what
we call power gain, with fewer gain stages required
in amplifier front ends. Noise and crosstalk- distortion
are greatly reduced because the audio signal travels
a shorter distance through fewer gain stages at lower
levels.
Patented Transana circuitry achieves the
same end result in a simpler lower cost circuit.
DIAMOND works in conjunction with the amplifier front
end to combine the linearity of a CLASS A amplifier
stage with the headroom of a CLASS B amplifier. This
can provide up to a 14dB gain in the dynamic range of
the amplifier front end. This simplicity of the signal
path keeps your audio signal intact.

Loudspeaker Technology
By manufacturing loudspeakers in our RAD facility, Fosgate
Audionics enjoys steadfast control of materials and applications
for each critical area of sound. Our woofers use santoprene
rubber surrounds for optimal linearity and cone materials
that are optimized for low distortion. Our spiders provide
improved linear control of the woofer cone and our hard
anodized aluminum voice coil formers draw heat away from
the coil for greater reliability and power handling. But
this is just the tip of the iceberg for Fosgate Audionics
monitor speakers and powered subwoofers. We design our
drivers, enclosures, and crossovers to work as a system
from the ground up. This means you get the music with
less coloration, less distortion, more dynamics, and rock
solid imaging thats true to the original performance. |
